Your Pregnancy Options
So you look down at the pregnancy test that you may or may not have taken alone in your bathroom/friend’s bathroom/school bathroom/work bathroom/boyfriend's bathroom. It's positive.
Welcome to one of the million teenage girls that get pregnant every year. So what do those one million girls do? I am sure a question for each girl is running through your head. Stop and breathe.
There are options. Depending on where you live all the options might not be explained to you. You can continue to keep the pregnancy, you can have an abortion or you can choose adoption. No one can tell you which choice is best for you. You might know right away or it might take you time to decide what choice is best for you.
If you’re thinking of keeping the pregnancy, there are a few things to think about. Where will you live? Most likely you will be living with your parents. Will they be supportive of you? How will you support yourself? Will you continue to go to school/home school or try for your GED? Is your boyfriend/the guy going to help out? Is it a relationship you would want to bring a baby into? Will you stay under your parents insurance or will you have to get your own, be it through your job or through the state? Do you have people in your life to support you? This is one of the most over looked questions. You will need support in the next nine months and even more so after the baby is born. Do you have that in real life or can you find it through the internet or support groups?
If you plan on having an abortion, you will have to make an appointment. You may have to meet with a counselor before hand to discuss the abortion or you may not. The day of the appointment make sure someone can go with you for support, transportation and if need be helping out with your children afterwards. If money is an issue there are a few places to contact that may be able to help.

If you choose adoption you will have to choose an adoption agency. You may want to talk to several agencies and talk to people who have used that agency before. It will help you get a better idea of whether or not you will want to work with them. With this choice you will still need a good deal of support. Will you be able to stay in school for nine months? WIll you be able to work?
Not every decision is right for you. No matter what decision you make, you will need support. To be responsible for something for the rest of your life that you will love more than life itself is no easy task. They take more than they give most of the time but in the end it is the most rewarding job you will ever have. If you want support in whatever decision you make you will find it here. I hope these questions have made you think and help you make a better more informed decision.
